lake point tower

East of LSD

Given my love of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe I struggle to understand my dislike of Lake Point Tower (1969). Perhaps it’s a combination of the shape and location? Practically, living east of Lake Shore would be inconvenient, at best, given my desire to walk or use public transit almost exclusively. The large pillars on the perimeter of each unit contribute significantly to my aversion to the building.

Here’s hoping I find some time (on a warmer day) to study the building and structure.

Who knows, I might even change my mind.

Edited to add: Lake Point Tower’s design was based on an early Mies van der Rohe plan for another building.

    1. Agreed. I’m reading up on the history of Lake Shore Drive this afternoon. I’m particularly interested in learning more about why and how the city moved the Drive in 1984.

      Hope you are well!
