boats on the sound

A time lapse of the view from a bench behind the Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center at Discovery Park.

A picnic lunch, watching the ships and boats, especially the sail boats tacking, and unexpectedly pleasant weather made for a relaxing afternoon.

West Point Lighthouse is the more popular view point but there are always fewer people at the Cultural Center. Shilshole Bay Marina is directly to the East which makes for a prime spot to spy the sailboats.

The time lapse compresses ~15 minutes into 15 seconds.

[edit] I should have linked to the excellent information on the Friends of Discovery Park site: overview of the master plan, a video of a walking tour (even more fun than the video can convey) and a nice description and history of the Ft. Lawton buildings.

  1. That’s a great place for a time lapse! I don’t know if you recorded this yesterday but it sure was a superb afternoon for being outside and admiring the clouds- there was some humongous cumulus drifting out to the Cascades.
