Buildings persist…
…names change.
After 96 years, the Oriental Theater will now be known as the James M. Nederlander Theater. I caught an awkward moment in the transition of the marquee. The last paragraph of the Chicago Tribune’s article from last fall seems gently discourage frustration or architectural preservation protests.
The precise date for the name change has yet to be determined, since it will necessitate a new marquee and signage, which will require the approval of various public bodies, although since the new Nederlander Theatre already is owned by the Nederlanders it is unlikely that anything or anyone will get in the way of the decision.

OH NO…I didn’t know about that. Another landmark name gone.
