Plasma: the fourth state
A snapshot of the sun through a telescope at the Adler Planetarium. Super fun to spend some time at the Adler on a weekday while the Planetarium was relatively empty. The staff had a couple of telescopes set up in the cafe and it was a pleasure to chat with the team and spend some time gazing at the surface of the sun.
Had a 4 1/4 ” reflector when I was a kid, in the remote suburbs, while the sky was still dark.
Neat! I’d like to get a telescope sometime soon. The sky above the lake is pretty dark and there’s always the dark sky parks in Michigan!
Looking out over the lake is about as good as it gets these days in the Chicago metro area. 🙁
I’ve not checked it myself, but Northwestern University has a telescope that’s open to the public on Fridays. Check out the university calendar for more info.
