Yesterday’s Icebox Derby at the Daley Center was super fun and super inspiring. Six teams of five 13-18 year old girls spend four weeks converting recycled refrigerators into solar powered race cars with guidance from ComEd mentors. The race itself is a relay: each of the girls take a lap around the track in three heats. The winning team posts the lowest lap time inclusive of answering science, technology, engineering and math questions at the end of each heat. Scholarships are awarded to all of the participants.
